Founded by Istanbul-based sisters Pinar and Deniz Yeğin, Rumisu create ethically manufactured accessories that give back to their community of origin. Inspired by their sisterhood, Rumisu is committed to creating a positive social impact, specifically through women‘s empowerment, with each silk scarf and pouch being produced by women artisans in South East Turkey. Scarves featuring corner creatures are hand crocheted by woman makers as part of a social responsibility project supported by the United Nations Development Programme.
The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Nairobi, an orphan-elephant rescue and rehabilitation programme, is also a cause close to the brand’s heart. Rumisu have a permanent collection of four styles which were inspired by the programme and donate a portion of sales from these scarves back to the trust.
